Comic Review: Transformers (2019) #1

Everything New Is Old Again…. When the announcement was made that IDW was going to end their run of Transformers comics, there was a very loud reaction from the fans.  When James Roberts posted his last soundtrack listing, people were saddened.  Even before the final page was read, tributes came flooding in from huge numbers of readers. I was not one of them. Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against IDW’s the content or quality of the stories spanning over a decade. Nothing against Roberts or Barber or anyone who put fingers to keyboard. Nothing against the artists or letterers

Transformers Fans, Get Ready to Celebrate MAY MAYHEM

Tomorrow is the first of May, and do you know what that means?  (Besides everyone online saying “May the Fourth Be With You” in a few days.) It means we are ready to kick of MAY MAYHEM for Transformers fans!  This month, you and I will be able to celebrate the ongoing Combiner Wars toyline with comics, online participation, new toys, and other fun ways.  The highlight of May Mayhem is the release of two new CW toys – Quickslinger (a/k/a Slingshot) and Brake-Neck (a/k/a Wild Rider), the two toys you need to recreate your Generation 1 experience with Superion

IDW Previews – April 16, 2014 – Transformers, 24 and More

There are a couple of books that IDW is releasing tomorrow that caught my eye.  First and foremost we have the highly-anticipated Transformers: Windblade #1.  The character of Windblade is fascinating from a behind-the-scenes standpoint alone.  It’s the first character ever created in Transformers with input from all fans.  Last year, Hasbro put up a poll asking what kind of character the fans would want, and lo-and-behold, we have Windblade, a female Transformer that exists in a universe where there aren’t many of her kind.  Not only that, she’s also the only robot around who can speak to Metroplex.  In the

IDW Publishing has released their solicitations for April 2014.  Here’s what’s in store for Transformers, GI Joe, and 24. TRANSFORMERS Transformers Legacy: A Celebration of Transformers Package Art—CERTIFIED COOL Jim Sorenson, Bill Forster (w) Remember the thrill of tearing open the wrapping on Christmas morning, discovering a brand new TRANSFORMERS toy in a shiny new box? While the toys were amazing in their own right, what made the packages stand head-and-shoulders above the competing action figures on shelves was the stunning box art. Transformers: Legacy collects hundreds of beautifully airbrushed paintings from the iconic first decade of The Transformers. Essays and interviews from the

Comic Quick Look — Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters #4

When I took a look at issue #3 of Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters, I said that I was having trouble accepting that the Dinobots looked like Earth dinosaurs, even though they had never been to our planet.  Well, I’m glad to say that issue #4 addresses my complaint.  In the course of fighting their organic counterparts, the Dinobots discover that the dinosaurs were part of Shockwave’s experiments.  He apparently had discovered them on Earth and decided to replicate them on Cybertron. Seems simple enough.  It’s an okay read.  It’s Dinobots and dinosaurs and huge fights, but I’m having problems caring about

Comic Quick Look – Transformers: Robots In Disguise #20

Yeah, I know this book came out last week.  Wizard World kept me busy. “Three Monologues” is a great character study by John Barber into the psyche of Starscream, and more specifically, Starscream as leader.  What he had wanted for millennia has finally come to pass, and he’s the leader of Iacon.  What he didn’t realize is how hard it would be to get the civilians on his side. This issue is interesting, though, is that we learn about Starscream not through his own words. No, this is a character study based on his actions and other character’s reactions to
