Toy Fair 2019: Transformers on TV

SPOILERS FOR TRANSFORMERS CYBERVERSE! In conjunction with Toy Fair 2019, Hasbro made two announcements regarding Transformers on your TV (or phone or tablet or computer or whatever will be used next year). First, “Transformers Cyberverse” has been given a second season, debuting Fall 2019. A trailer was posted on YouTube, and in addition to the cast we saw in Season 1, we saw some very interesting new characters…. Lugnut! Lockdown! …CHEETOR??? Whoa. Looks like I need to get caught up on this show so I know what’s going on come Fall! Here’s the details on the new season: Season 2,

Toy Fair 2019: Hasbro Announces Transformers/Ghostbusters Ecto-1

“Dogs and cats, living together — Mass Hysteria!” That was pretty much the reaction this morning when the brand new HasbroPulse.com suddenly provided an item listing for an 80’s Kid’s Crossover Dream: An official Transformers Ecto-1 from GHOSTBUSTERS! Ectotron is a collaboration between Hasbro, Takara, Columbia Pictures, and General Motors to produce a robot that converts into the hearse-turned-ghostbusting-vehicle from the popular movie that surely can’t be turning thirty five years old…. Holy cow. This is nuts. This is amazing. This is Ecto Cooler returning Big. To top it off, IDW announced a five part miniseries featuring Ectotron that will

Hasbro Studios Announces International Distribution Deal with Cartoon Network for “Transformers: Cyberverse”

Hasbro has sent over a press release announcing international distribution of “Transformers: Cyberverse”.  I’m about six episodes behind at the moment, but I like this. Anything that promotes the current Transformers media is a good proposition.  Hasbro Studios Announces International Distribution Deal with Cartoon Network for Transformers: Cyberverse   Transformers: Cyberverse to Roll Out to Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America Late 2018   Burbank, CA, November 20, 2018 – Hasbro Studios, the Los Angeles-based entertainment distribution division of Hasbro, Inc. Target’s Expanded Toy Aisles Are Appearing

With the death of Toys R Us as we know it (I’m still wary of Geoffrey’s Toy Box and what it actually will be), Target recently announced plans to expand their toy selection in 500 stores. Four aisles near their book section would be removed and replaced with toys. It would involve a little play area and some larger toys, the kinds usually found at TRU. At least two Target stores near me started taking out the existing aisles, so I knew I’d see the new toys soon. Lo and behold, we have new toys! I don’t know if this

Transformers BotBots Are Coming, and You Can’t Handle the Cute

After last week’s interesting leak of BotBots, we finally get to see exactly what we’re dealing with. And what we’re dealing with is the cutest batch of Transformers since… Uh… Hmm. Not sure we’ve had any Transformers this cute. Been almost thirty five years, it’s about time we did. BotBots is a new line to be fully unveiled at London MCM Comic Con later this week, and it looks like it will give Shopkins a run for it’s money. Gone are Autobots and Decepticons. In their place are Energon-infused every-day items such as fast food, bathroom fixtures, tech gadgets, and

Like the Ending of WarGames. Minus Actual War Games.

Let me explain that. Close to the end of the 1983 (holy cow, 1983?) movie WarGames, when it appears Joshua via the WOPR computer has launched actual nuclear weapons, General Kitridge asks several army bases if they’re still around. After a few tense seconds, we hear the jubilant response: “Yeah! We’re still here!” And that’s ASM. I’m still here. I’m more active on Twitter (@ASMzine), but I’m still around. You can see I’ve put up a fresh coat of paint on the website, and I’m still working on some of the underlying structure, but I’m here. Got some other plans.

Never Growing Up, But It’s Time for Saying Goodbye

Today, as I type these words, the Toys R Us I called mine closed.  By the time this post is published, the other store in the area will be on its last day if not closed already, as will all of the other stores in the country. Today is truly a sad day for me.  When TRU announced new closings earlier this year, there was a store in my area listed.  I panicked at the thought of my Toys R Us being closed to save the corporation money, and then when I realized it was the Babies R Us store

Never Growing Up — Share Your Toys R Us Memory

Sadly, the news we feared came true yesterday, and Toys “R” Us will be closing all their US and UK stores soon, unless a miracle occurs. I have many thoughts on what happened, but that is not the point of this post. No, I want to share my memories of being a Toys  Us kid, and I bet you do too. So I’ve set up a Tumblr blog to take your submissions, and I am also accepting stories, pictures, and video via email. Please join me at http://ididntwanttogrowup.tumblr.com or email tru@asmzine.com. My thanks to Andrew LoVuolo for the header graphic.
