Bloomington, Minnesota – April 30, 2012 – MetaCon 2012, the largest upcoming comicon, sci-fi, and anime con to come to Minneapolis is thrilled to announce that two more stars from Power Rangers will be joining the convention in 2012. MetaCon will gather thousands of fans of TV, comics, sci-fi, anime, and popular culture to the Minneapolis, Minnesota area for a three-day weekend celebrating fandom and nerd life.

Michael Sowell Copon is an actor, model, producer, and singer, known for his role of Felix Taggaro in the television series One Tree Hill, playing Vin Keahi in the television series Beyond the Break, and starring in Power Rangers: Time Force. Michael has also starred as the lead in numerous films, including Night of the Demons, All You’ve Got, Dark House, Music High, and Bring It On: In It To Win It. He has also starred as the lead while producing or co-producing on Killer Holiday and Boyband.

Michael Copon has also played recurring characters on Beyond the Break, Greek, and That’s So Raven, in addition to guest starring on Hawaii 5-0, CSI: Miami, and Reno 911.

As an actress, singer, dancer, writer, and model, when you take a look at Nakia Burrise’s career, it becomes crystal clear that she is a triple threat and entertainment is her passion!

Growing up in Stockton, CA, Nakia was introduced to musical theater and performance in elementary school. She began performing acrobatics by the age of five and later ventured into theater, musical theater, dancing, singing and modeling. After graduating from Edison High School in Stockton, California, Nakia auditioned for UCLA’s prestigious theater department. She was the only African American female freshman accepted into the theater department that year. By the time she was a junior at UCLA, her professional career had begun. She booked her first role as a series regular on Power Rangers, as Tanya Sloan, the yellow ranger; while simultaneously recording her first pop album with her singing group Divine. After Power Rangers Nakia took a break from acting full-time to begin a family. After the birth of her second child she began pursuing acting again and was diagnosed with a lung disease that again took her away from her passion, acting. In 2008, Nakia was blessed with a clean bill of health (as her illness was now in remission) and she once again pursued her dream of acting.

She has played an array of characters in such shows as 90210, The Middle, Rules Of Engagement, Melissa and Joey, Bones, Samantha Who, Boston Legal, Nash Bridges, Moesha and even found time to film a sitcom pilot that she wrote, produced and starred in titled, Crazy Daze. She is currently working as a series regular on an internet series for Mattel, due to premiere in 2012. Nakia plays the role of Nikki. Along with her television credits, she has appeared in numerous films, national commercials, and print ads. In addition, her stage performances continue to thrive. She has starred in musicals such as Bye-Bye Birdie, The Wiz, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Cinderella and the list goes on. Her resolve to be successful in the entertainment business is relentless. And her will to overcome life’s obstacles are incessant. But, her desires do not begin and end with performing. She is determined to reach where it counts the most, the children.

In 2006, Nakia, founded a non-profit corporation, “A Day in the Life,” with the mission is to reach inner city children by giving them the opportunity to explore careers, life options and community possibilities through field trips, presentations and field work; opportunities that are not readily accessible to many inner city youths.

Nakia and Michael will be joining other Power Rangers stars Jason Faunt and Jessica Rey for autograph sessions, interviews, and Q&A panels. Other guests include hit anime voice actor Todd Haberkorn (Hetalia, Soul Eater, Ouran) and Internet Entrepreneur YTCracker. The full guest list can be found online at http://www.metaconvention.com/guests

MetaCon is a three-day event filled with activities for fans of all media, including comic books, anime, video games, fashion, music, steampunk, lolita, and more. Events include numerous autograph sessions, costume contests, tournaments, and events. Fans of Japanese anime can enjoy discussion panels and Q&As with voice actors, while fans of music can enjoy concerts and DJs.
Jason Faunt was born outside of Chicago, IL. After years of playing college and then a brief stint in pro baseball he hung up the cleats and decided to move out to L.A. to pursue a longtime dream of becoming an actor. Initially having some success on the commercial and print side Jason started doing bit work on soap operas which led to his role of ‘Kane’ on Port Charles and ‘Carson’ on Passions. Soon after he booked the lead as the Red Ranger on Power Rangers Time Force, playing two different characters, one from both the present and the future.

The past year Jason has been working in the motion capture world as the lead character in a yet to be released video game franchise. Until they announce it we are not able to say any more. Stay tuned for that announcement later this year. Jason resides in Newport Coast, CA with his wife Stephanie and two daughters Keira and Makayla. Ages 6 and 4

Jessica Rey was raised in Orange County, where she graduated from Cal State Fullerton with her BA in Business. Immediately upon graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her MBA at Loyola Marymount University. She began working as an actress, appearing in numerous national television commercial campaigns, including Kellogg’s, Jeep, Nokia, T-Mobile, and Gillette.

While finishing her MBA, she landed the role as Alyssa, the White Power Ranger on Power Rangers Wild Force. She has made guest appearances on Days of Our Lives, The Young & the Restless, The Stones, General Hospital, Las Vegas, and Rules of Engagement. Jessica currently designs her own line of vintage-inspired swimsuits: www.ReySwimwear.com and is producing her own television series.

As in past years, the costumers came out in full force for C2E2 in 2012. The creations of these talented and creative fans are one of the highlights of the convention floor.

The convention is simply too large to see every costume, so I’m sure our team missed out on seeing many fantastic costumes throughout the weekend. We did our best to photograph as many as we could to share with our readers.

Current pop culture usually has an impact on costume choices. As expected, characters from The Avengers were frequently seen this year. Captain America seemed to be a particularly popular choice, whether it was the movie version or the classic comic book version. The Hunger Games inspired a good number of costumers. I was somewhat surprised to see more dressed as Effie Trinket than Katniss though. Current favorite television shows Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead were also represented, although not in as large of numbers. The ongoing Steampunk trend doesn’t seem to be losing any momentum either.

Classic characters were out in full force as well. The X-Men seem to be highly costumed at any convention, and this one was no exception. Nintendo characters continued to be a favorite. Star Wars costumes, both classic and the newer Clone Wars-era, could be found in large numbers throughout the weekend. Batman characters were prevalent and seemed to be an especially big hit with the fans. Disney princesses were appropriately popular on Children’s Day on Sunday. There was even a Voltron on Saturday, although I was only able to glimpse the costume from some distance. By the time I pushed my way through the crowd with my camera, Voltron was gone.

Please visit our galleries for a full rundown of our costume encounters (including Saturday’s Marvel Costume Contest)!

@ASMzine In the panel for <s>@</s>JoshuaGates. Hey <s>@</s>DtonSyfyFans — where are ya? <s>#</s>c2e2

@ASMzine Josh starts off by thanking the fans. He apologizes for the long hiatus, which isnt unusual for SyFy.

@ASMzine All new eps are coming this summer, with a premiere 1 hour story in Vietnam.

@ASMzine UFO story in Kazikstan. Dont bring up Borat. Ep in Sweden, back to the Haunted Forest in Romania. Evan is back.

@ASMzine Fiji, Belize, Tikal – great eps. Clip from S5 and the Vietnam ep are shown.

@ASMzine The new season is “a lot of crazy stuff, great episodes.”

@ASMzine Q: are the vehicles that bad on purpose? Yes and no. Go for the look of the show, but local producers bring junkers a lot of the time.

@ASMzine How long does it take to film? 4-6 days to film half an episode.

@ASMzine Try to approach each myth openminded, but they want the show the journey not just the end result. Gives context and humor.

@ASMzine Takes a moment to tell a story about he got.locked in the stairwell just before the panel. Poor Devin.

@ASMzine What if an angry alien chases them? No plan B, just kind of wing it. There are medical procedures and staff but they have to be cautious.

@ASMzine Did not plan on this when he was growing up. Past five years have been great.

@ASMzine Belize – looking for a jungle creature. Guatemala. – haunting at Tikal.

@ASMzine Fan wants to know if he could be Josh’s intern for an ep. Josh says that there are new people but they travel so light.

@ASMzine Fan asks about the alien baby in Chile. Josh took photos to experts and they couldn’t say what it was. Chile experts haven’t said anything.

@ASMzine Out of all the DT stories, the Yeti is the one he wants most to exist. He thinks there are possibly new primate species to be found.

@ASMzine Antarctica is his favorite ep. Difficult to get to and shoot but beautiful

@ASMzine Many ritual ceremonies he’s done, theyare all special. Wishes they could show more.

@ASMzine He is thankful to.Ghost Hunters and their fans for helping DT stay on the air. The entire team is great.

@ASMzine Scariest moment? When the roof ripped off the plane. And he thinks Judge Dredd is the worst comic book movie. Daredevil was bad, too.

@ASMzine He starts to go off on Ang Lee’s Hulk too.

@ASMzine This season is full of lots of spills and near accidents.

@ASMzine “Have.you ever been honesty scared during your investigations?” “Almost always.” the murky water dives are usually scary.

@ASMzine Camels are the worst form of transportation he’s tried. And haloub(?) From the Philippines is the worst food.

@ASMzine He’s always been interested in the stories but only done this professionally since the start of the show.

@ASMzine He likes the monsters shows more than the ghost eps

@ASMzine He got lucky. The first pilot was filmed with a different host. He wasnt liked so Josh got the job.

@ASMzine Josh is hoping the show gets people excited about travel. He got.it from his parents. He thinks people get insulated from travel here.

@ASMzine They do have an archive but it’s not yet accessible. Hopes to get that at some point.

@ASMzine DT on DVD: every four months he sends an email and gets a response saying there’s a plan. And the cycle repeats.

@ASMzine Who decides on what to investigate? He and his production company decide based on how to travel and what seems popular. SyFy does have a say

@ASMzine Favorite starbucks is the Christmas Mocha.

@ASMzine Did you ever pay Rex $5 on the bet? “No. He owes me so.much.

@ASMzine The most dangerous environment is the deep.jungle rainforests. Snakes, weather – Amazon rain forest, Malaysia, Indonesia.

@ASMzine Been really lucky with human interactions. Had guns in his face at an army checkpoint when trying to get into Senecal (?).

@ASMzine .<s>@</s>Joshuagates big announcement : one of his goals is highlighting the journey of the search.

@ASMzine The response has been great. Thanks for the feedback, he says

@ASMzine He has alsk had people ask how they can be part of the adventure? Requests have been passed.along to.Syfy on how to.do this.

@ASMzine Tried pitching contests, competition shows. Just not been able to do that. Lots of company workings gojng on.

@ASMzine But starting this summer, Josh is going to host special dinners. He will tweet dates times and locations.

@ASMzine If you can make it there, a great unique dinner waiting with Josh. This is not a Dt, NBC, SyFy thing. This is all Josh.

@ASMzine There will also be guided tours. “Destination Dinner” with <s>@</s>JoshuaGates

@ASMzine A lot of his frequent flier miles are thanks to fans. So at each dinner one seat will be reserved for a fan who.will get to use his miles.

I will be handling pictures of the displays, the booths, the games, and whatever nice geeky stuff I find. My cosplay cohort, Rogue Z, will be covering the costumes.

Speaking of costumes, we want to see yours! Rogue Z wants to put together a costume gallery for C2E2, so get out your finest comic/movie/TV/sci-fi/geek costumes and make sure to find us.

Even if you aren’t in costume, we want to meet you. Keep an eye out for the ASM logo and say hi! You’ll probably find us hanging out at the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion tables at some point, as well as stalking the John Barrowman and David Newell autograph lines. If you don’t see the ASM logo, it might be because we’re incognito as well….

IDW’s digital-only Transformers: Autocracy is headed towards the meat of its story, and the pieces of the plot are becoming more apparent. Last issue saw Optimus ambushed the Decepticons, but they only wanted to bring him to Megatron for a talk. Let’s see who’s in a talking mood…

The Synopsis

At the end of the last chapter, Orion and the Autobots were taken prisoner by the Decepticons, as Megatron requested a face-to-face chat with Orion. We start off this issue as the two robots meet. Apparently, Megatron just told Orion that Iacon’s corrupt, which isn’t really new news. Megatron continues to say that he’s interested in Orion as someone who he can work with. The two of them aren’t too different, really; flip sides of the same coin.

Megatron proceeds to show Orion a recording Soundwave made of Zeta Prime telling Starscream the plans to take energon from Cybertron’s inhabitants by force. Megatron informs Orion that Zeta now has weapons and he plans to kill both Autobots and Decepticons alike in Nyon, and that Orion is just a pawn in this. Megatron wants Orion to help take down the autocracy he knows to be corrupt.

Orion’s answer is to have a surprise Autobot attack invade Megatron’s stronghold. Ironhide, Hound and the others are able to free Bumblebee and the rest of Orion’s team. The Autobots escape, thanks to Sky Lynx who provides the transport. Megatron orders that the Autobots are to be allowed to flee, as Orion’s knowledge of Zeta’s plans will help damage the Autobot cause.

Speaking of Zeta, when Orion returns without the intel requested, Zeta’s none too happy. Orion’s not happy with Zeta either. Zeta warns that this next mission must not fail — Orion is to apprehend the insurgent mystery bomber in Nyon. Who is this robot?

Hot Rod.

To Be Continued

Thoughts

The art was better this issue, possibly because we moved to a pallette with more reds than blues. Details were easier to spot in this issue.

I know some people don’t like the storyline that Metzen and Dille are providing here. Personally, I’m liking the political underpinnings that are taking place. That might be why I love “Game of Thrones” as well. There’s a whole game going on behind the fighting. I’m curious as to what Hot Rod’s role in this story will be.

The Final Rewind

This issue is a solid effort. With four issues done, there’s no need or time for setup. The pawns are in place, and the chess game has truly begun.

Support your local comic shop! If they have a digital storefront, buy through them. If they don’t, ask them to get one! If you don’t know, find out. If your local shop doesn’t have a digital store, may I recommend buying through my local store, Neptune Comics? They do not pay me for this mention; I just like them a lot.
