#NYCC – Custom Jervis Tumblers

Custom Tervis Tumblers

Report by Anthony Brucale

IMG_0277One of the more interesting and interactive booths at NYCC was brought to us by the folks at Tervis. For a moment it seemed out of place, a company that sells tumblers and drinkware; but as made my own Comic Con-themed tumbler, it started to make sense.

What Tervis offered at NYCC was a customizable tumbler, with a number of iconic licenses in their stable, a layout was available for just about any fan; and putting it together was a lot of fun.

The process starts with simply giving your name (either at live events or online in twenty-five color choices), which they print out on your choice of one of three colors of vinyl sticker; after that, you pick out you receive the inner and outer pieces to the tumbler. Then, after receiving the exclusive NYCC internal patch and picking out one of your own (in my case, Batman), you head on over the machine station where they walk you through affixing your sticker and patches before sealing the internal cup to the external cup.

Finally, you pick out a lid and you are all set!

After giving it a wash (it’s dishwasher safe, btw), I decided the other night to give it a test run. The 16 oz.
version holds a can of soda perfectly and the lid features a sliding cover to keep you from spilling. The insulated interior kept the drink cold without the outside sweating.

What makes this different than your average tumbler is the myriad of designs and licenses Tervis carries on their site and in-person. Online, they allow you a number of customization options and if you aren’t up for making your own, they offer a ton of their own designs. Tervis currently has licenses with the big four sports leagues, Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Warner Bros., NASCAR, Hallmark, and many more. (Sadly, no Hasbro license at the moment.) So swing by their website, http://www.tervis.com, or store and check them out!

Miscellaneous Artists and Booths

As the title says — miscellaneous pictures.

The Superman Costume Display

To celebrate Superman’s 75th Anniversary, DC Comics had a display featuring the various costumes the character has worn in various movies and TV shows.  There were no costumes worn by George Reeves (the original “Superman” serials), but there were two worn by Christopher Reeve (the original movies), as well as costumes worn by Tom Welling (“Smallville”), Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Henry Cavill (Man of Steel).

Hot Wheels Camaro

Chevrolet had a display there with a Hot Wheels Camaro.

Stan Lee’s Signature Cologne

Not a misprint.  Stan Lee now has a signature cologne.  Ant describes it as having “fairly soft scent, kind of baby-powdery.”  Now you know.

South Park Game Pavilion

Ant didn’t go into this area, but he could tell they were checking IDs at the entrance.  So you know something not-for-kids was going on in there.

Mattel’s “Masters of the Universe” Display

Mattel had loads of their “Masters of the Universe” Classics on display at the show; we tried to get pictures of it all (apologies for some weird lighting issues causing havoc with the camera).  Strobo was released at the con.

This film stars Michael Parks (Kill Bill, Red State), Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard, Going the Distance, Apple “I’m a Mac/I’m a PC” commercials), and Genesis Rodriguez (Identity Thief, Entourage). Smith also announced that his “Hollywood Babble-On” co-host Ralph Garman (Ted, “The Joe Schmo Show”) will play Sean Hartle in Clerks III; Hartle is a person mentioned in passing in Smith’s second film, Mallrats.

#NYCC: Whedon’s BUFFY / ANGEL & FAITH Return for Tenth Season

NYCC: WHEDONVERSE ENTERS TENTH SEASON!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel & Faith Return in 2014!

BUFFYS10 #1 FC FNLNew York NY – Announced at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse is bringing the Whedonverse into it’s tenth season with the help of fan favorite authors, Christos Gage and Victor Gischler.

“In Buffy, Season 10 is going to be about bringing friendships back together, while in Angel & Faith, relationships are shattered. Magic is starting to come back into the world, but in some surprising ways, like that vampire we saw standing in the sunlight at the end of Season 9,” says Editor in Chief Scott Allie.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 is slated for 30 issues, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Rebekah Issacs, with covers by long time series artist, Steve Morris.
“The Buffyverse community has been wonderfully welcoming to Rebekah and me. It’s a tremendous honor for Joss and Dark Horse to trust us with their flagship book, and we are going to do all we can to be worthy of that trust. It’s a new season, with new rules…but hopefully the same blend of love, action, horror, humor and creativity that’s made Buffy and her Scoobies part of all our families. We hope you’ll join us for the ride,” states Christos Gage

Angel & Faith is also slated for a 30 issue run, written by Victor Gischler and illustrated by Will Conrad, with covers by Scott Fischer.

ANGELAFS10 #1 FC FNL“I was proud and privileged to have a small part in season nine, and I can’t express how grateful I am to have an expanded role in season ten.  Buffy the Vampire Slayer remains an iconic television show, and the Dark Horse comics continue that great tradition.  I plan on having a lot of fun.” Says Angel & Faith series writer Victor Gischler
“I’m very happy that our Angel & Faith artist has hopped over to Buffy, allowing our Buffy artist to jump over to Serenity. And to make the game of musical chairs complete, the guy who draw the first two Serenity miniseries is back in the loop, taking over Angel & Faith. These are all artists Joss and the writers and I are comfortable working with, and who are cozy with these characters, so it’s nice to shake things up a bit while having a lot of confidence in what these artists can do. And I’m so happy to have Will back,” adds Scott Allie.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #1 hits stands March 19th and Angel & Faith Season 10 #1 is on sale April 2nd in comic shops everywhere!

#NYCC: Greg Rucka Comes to Dark Horse with “Veil”

GREG RUCKA COMES TO DARK HORSE WITH THE ALL-NEW ORIGINAL SERIES VEIL!

GregRuckaVeilNEW YORK, NY, OCTOBER 11—It was announced officially today on Dark Horse’s horror panel at New York Comic Con that Greg Rucka would be bringing his latest heroine to Dark Horse in the new series Veil!

The story opens when a beautiful girl wakes up in an abandoned subway station with no memory of how she got there. When men try to hurt her . . . they wind up dead. Where did she come from? And what is she capable of?

This new series, drawn by Toni Fejzula, comes as the perfect addition to a heroine lineup that includes Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ghost, and Serenity’s River Tam. Dark Horse is proud to introduce comics’ next leading lady!

“I’ve been tossing the idea behind Veil around for over a decade, seriously, but it wasn’t until Scott Allie pulled the string on it that it came to life,” said writer Greg Rucka. “It’s a very different kind of tale for me, very different in what I’m trying to accomplish, and working with Dark Horse, working with Toni, is a rare opportunity to try to bring this thing to life. The opportunity Dark Horse is providing us is amazing.”

“There are a lot of characters in comics that are very dangerous, and a lot that bring danger with them wherever they go. Veil gives that concept a whole new and very deadly meaning,” said Dark Horse’s editor in chief, Scott Allie. “I don’t know if I can classify her as an antihero. But she’s a character that’s going to surprise you in a lot of ways. Greg does gritty urban drama like no one else, and here he’s adding to it some things you’ve never seen from him before.”

The first part of this brand-new five-issue story by multiple Eisner Award winner Greg Rucka (LazarusQueen & Country, Stumptown) arrives on sale March 5, 2014.
